Site-wide Blacklisted Words

Recommended Posts

if you check out the 18+ misc forum, there is an entire thread about this topic.

I'll check popular threads that pop up on the main page, but I work full-time, so I don't have a lot of time to cruise the forum.
That said, I just want to respect intersex people, so if not using the word is the general consensus I have no issue not using it.

Whether or not the term is a slur you recognize is not an inherent need. These words affect our international userbase and we are censoring them accordingly, regardless of whether or not an individual user may personally recognize them.

If you try to use a word and it's censored, know that it is actually a harmful term we decided to restrict from clear view across the website, including in tags.

We're not down with people saying the n-word or go against the wishes of marginalized indigenous folks by using the w*, and we will remain active in ensuring we protect folks by making informed decisions on what language may not be appropriate uncensored.

Oh, as a side note. Gonna assume you guys are including g*psy as a slur, which it literally is?

Yes, it was added to the list, but missed in the above.

I was taught, by an intersex person, that they preferred "intersex" be used for human beings and "h***" for fictional creatures to create something of a divide, but updated a tag on one upload I guess?

"altersex" or "dualsex" are generally the preferred terms in those situations.

If you are gonna add w*nd*go i would also suggesting adding sk*nw*lker. I know a lot of natives of the southwest have expressed they dont like people using that at all for similar reasons. Some people like using it as a fancy replacement for werewolves or other shapeshifters

It is already added! We're just coming up with descriptions for it/a couple others to add to the above list.

I will admit the complete censoring is completely throwing me off but awesome glad yall are really being thorough with all this!

Uuugh yes its so gross seeing people appropriating indigenous cultures so they can make kinky porn. So disrespectful.

Navajo wont even speak about these topics because of appropriative shit like that.

Has anyone suggested...

”colored people”, “trap” (this may be tricky given the music genre), “blacks”, and “crip”?

Kind of a grab bag here of racism, transphobia, and ableism I’m throwing out here but I don’t see em on the list.

trap i feel like has too many other legitimate usages as a word to blanket censor without causing some legibility issues in entirely unrelated circumstances to its use as a slur

tbh i think this kind of applies for all of those suggestions, with the additional issue of 'colored people' being easily circumvented since just 'colored' couldn't be blocked for the same reason.

Don't listen to just one singular person and form your opinion on that. Get the opinions of several people in a community. H*** being the preferred term is not at all the popular opinion of the intersex community. Not even remotely. Most intersex people, including myself, loathe the term

Blacks might be not a great idea since like depending on context you might be referring to art/fashion as in like saying "using blacks to shade is frowned upon"

I think most of those might be better to just have be reported for moderator review instead of a blanket censor.

Does this mean that using these words will lead to a warning or other punishment? As a gay man I have some interest in using the f-slur for my own purposes.

It would generally fall under this rule.

  1. Any Media which promotes, glorifies, encourages, or in any way puts forth in a positive light, and includes but is not limited to: terrorism, illegal acts, hate speech, hate groups (such as the KKK, Nazism, Fascism, Authoritarianism, the Alt-Right, Q-Anon, All Lives Matter, Back the Blue, Kekistan, etc.), harm or abuse to minors (including nsfw "cub" art), animals, or adults, spam or deceptive media, harassment, or human trafficking.

It's probably best to not use the word in a public space in general because not everyone is comfortable with it being reclaimed or used in certain ways that will go undescribed. I don't know how the mods would handle it, but this is just an automatic filter for certain words.

The site will automatically censor the blacklisted words. No punishment is given.

You should probably clarify that using those words in a way that otherwise violates the ToS would still be punished. IE there's a difference between a minority group individual attempting to reclaim a word and someone just being a bigot.

Suggestions on what to add bc I didn't see them:

"beaner" is a derogatory slur/insult referring to Mexicans

"tranny" is a derogatory slur/insult referring to transgender people

this is all i can think of at the moment, but if there are more i will recommend them to be added

Is there any way to get an uncensored list? Maybe I'm just a bit sheltered but I'm unsure what quite a few of these are... Would love to educate and avoid these terms, but it's hard when there's no way to know what they are.

Education is not one of the goals of this list, it's main goal is only protecting people usually targeted by the slurs, according to Staff Member Comburo's message from a couple days ago after that point was raised:

is this actually implemented? i saw a drawing tagged as h**m today and im not sure how it got past the censors

Was it posted today? I just did a quick search and it looks like the tagging is not retroactive, so anything tagged using the now blacklisted words before the censoring was put in place still shows the tags in clear view.
