I'll just try to survive these 4 more years of madness since I don't have a choice to move out, but I will still push for changes. But I have a bad feelin that Trump could stay longer..

I won't be leaving for anything other than job reasons maybe; I have vulnerable friends and loved ones to protect. I truly believe that ultimately the power of the people will prevail, and fascism will fail--but it'll be a fight one way or another, regardless who wins. Don't forget that all of those yacht-crashing rich chuds are already planning on "taking our country back" if Biden wins.
Imo, the 'resistance' response really shouldn't be any different between Biden or Trump. Yes there are important differences, but in a 2020 post-Covid world there's not a single thing that either side is offering that I feel like we should accept lying down. No universal healthcare, no Covid relief, no police abolishment, no ICE abolishment + prosecution....unacceptable. If there's no fundamental change + resistance, we're gonna be stuck with a shit government and horrid Trumpism mentality + supporters either way.
I"ll concede though that I'm pretty disillusioned by electoral politics (I mean remember how G.W. Bush won that one election b/c his brother was FL's governor and the conservative SCOTUS just decided he won?), but Joe "Nothing Will Fundamentally Change" Biden is only better than Trump in that he's not overtly a fascist.

Please pardon my cynicism and frustrated tone, but I promise I'm filled with determination, intent, and genuine hope 😤 This isn't the end, we will prevail!

Prepare for the worst. Fill out my plate carrier. Pack a good bug out bag. Take some street medic training. Get a long gun. Find some like minded folks. And hope that my preparations remain unnecessary.

Shit is terrifying.
Honest thank you for reminding me to redo my bug-out bag. The clothes in it probably don't even fit anymore x.x

push harder on being self sufficent to the extent of not partcipating in capitalism as much as possible

i mean that was the plan already since neither of the people who had plans for Job Corps and trade schools being better were yeeted by the democrats but itdget cemented faster

If he wins I will continue to avoid facebook (The blow out from that last election year divided family friends etc.) and keep focusing on my goals.  Hope that international jobs still have a place and role within this country after the issues with Covid and return to my original occupation, teaching abroad.  (Chances of this are low due to the environment right now.)

I will save money and lay low. Avoid anyone bringing up violence or people celebrating (depends on other response to the loss or victory.) Keep to myself and just do what I can for a living.  Be flexible and work to better myself and help those who may need it.  Remain educated about whats happening and what could happen and try to stay positive.

Above all though, to those who are voting this election, and even for those who don't want to... vote and look at the other things tied to the elections, look at senate, look at our government and the measures that will be on the ballot. Remember that a president is NOT a dictator, they cannot just do whatever they want.  Declaration of emergencies are different, but this year has been a very rare occurrence within our history.  It's not every year that a pandemic hits, that the entire west coast is set on fire, multiple hurricanes bombarding the south.  We have been getting really bad situations hitting us, but consider whats happening, and what leads to these events. Look at your state, remember that the state has more control over your life than the president.
(Also if you plan on fleeing the country. DO YOUR RESEARCH ABOUT IT.)

If he wins, why not help your community? Keep positive and support one another.

To anyone who reads this, don't get me wrong. I don't like this election this year, I hate it this election just as much as I hated the last one.

I plan on reflecting on my plans as more and more obstacles appear. After all 4 years is a short period in a persons lifetime.

He tried to suspend the elections indefinitely. He is trying to be a dictator as much as he can get away with. And that's terrifying.

As far as looking to the states, Trump has actively diverted funds and resources based on who he likes, and sent federal agents to fuck with cities with a left lean.

He has also endeavored to interfere in the election process through disruption of the post and encouraging his supporters to vote twice to cause chaos.

He has already sought foreign "help" in the coming election.

And what is perhaps terrifying, is if he wins, there is a massive crowd of people that support him and these behaviors. That level of popular support for someone who wants to be a dictator is bad. Really really bad.

That's my only point I would like to make. Aside from that, I generally get where you are coming from and you should do you.

yeah if he wins a second term at this point it seems pretty clear he will be a dictator. there is no real way to mistake what he's currently doing as anything but those of someone who would gladly seize absolute power if he could, and in any case he's already shown that there's really no way to hold him accountable so long as either one or both of the legislature or the courts is enabling his current actions.

I will seriously consider moving to Finland. I am legally able, I speak the native language, and I have extended family who live there including my dad. I'd rather not uproot my whole life and leave all of my friends and partners behind but I also fuckin hate it here, y'know?

The worst part about the whole idea that he could win this upcoming election is the fact, due to the current situation in the USA about a particular... Illness. Most countries won't allow Americans to enter, let alone MOVE.  Running isn't even a legal option for most.

Other countries mostly respect asylum laws unlike the US.

Are asylum laws still in effect during this pandemic? If so is that the case with the country you are trying to flee to?

Also would everyone trying to run even qualify for asylum seeking? There are particular requirements needed to considered an asylum seeker. Saying you don't like a president doesn't count. There has to be evidence that you, as an individual is considered in danger.

I am not saying it couldn't be justified, but actually heading out should be done with lots of thought, planning, and above all, research.

It's also hard to say what could happen if he does get elected a second time.  I acknowledge your earlier statement with him trying to keep office without a fair election. His opinion on states that do not follow his stance have been getting screwed over. Don't get me wrong about these facts.  After all his response with the natural disasters that are happening in our country makes his intentions and opinions clear.

I just hope those who are planning to run are fully prepared and can handle restrictions that may occur.

The guy with the Hitler pfp go banned faster than I could report hot damn. Thank you mods.

I would stay because i love my country
So are you staying to fight against him, or are you backing someone who has repeatedly threatened to suspend the elections and is actively trying to sabotage them? Because if you love the US the last thing you'll want to do is be complacent in the face of a dictatorial takeover like the kind Trump is trying to pull.

In short, which part of the US do you love?

The democratic ideals of liberty and freedom; or the white supremacy and bigotry?

Because the US is in all ways a contradiction of the ideals of freedom against a history of bigotry up to and including outright genocide. And where someone falls on the side of those contradictions is all the difference in the nature of their love. For some it inspired the worst crimes of our history. For others, love of freedom spurred them to great feats; people like John Brown.
